Are you looking for a family-friendly day trip? We discovered Vandula Farms’ Market and Nursery in Delta BC and loved the relaxing atmosphere, as well as the BC grown local food, plants and unique gifts.
I grew up next to a farm, and spent much of my childhood watching cows be milked, counting the farm cats, and exploring areas we shouldn’t have been. We soaked up the atmosphere of the land, and saw the hard work over generations to keep the farm going. When we moved to Surrey, I worried that my son wouldn’t grow up with this experience.
Luckily, there are some great farms not too far from us– including Vandula Farms, which we discovered is only 20 minutes from our South Surrey home. It was a nice surprise that it’s so close!
Vandula Farms is a family owned 7 acre farm that’s proud to have grown from “a little roadside stand on the highway” to the destination one-stop-shop it is today.
In the 40 years it’s been open, Vandula Farms has been visited by thousands of families each year from Surrey, Delta, White Rock, Tswassen and Vancouver between April -End of October.
They’ve recently expanded their home and gift section and gone through a full rebrand. I couldn’t be a bigger fan of this new approach to diversify the farm and market and make it a fun family experience.
Vandula Farms has recently expanded to include a large home and patio section that’s expertly styled with a modern, natural vibe. They boast a jungle of popular tropical plants (which they assure me are ‘Hard to Kill’). These plants are not just great indoor air purifiers, but they also bring the much needed “zen” in our homes. They offer beautifully unique made-in-store dish gardens, air plants and succulent arrangements. These make excellent gifts … or why not spark some personality in your own home and patio?
Truthfully, the every single item in this market has been thoughtfully curated in a modern, natural style. I loved every single offering in the jam-packed space, and I received SO many messages from my community when I shared stories on my instagram. Everyone agreed— #designgoals
We consider ourselves to be fruit connoisseurs. We haven’t seen–or tasted– strawberries like Vandula’s homegrown plump, juicy, sweet, and large Everbearing ones before.
Each year, Vandula Farms allocates 3,000 square ft. of greenhouse space to give ample room to the 14,000 strawberry plants that they bring in early March. Since they are greenhouse grown, climate and bug control have allowed them to achieve consistently large, juicy berries.
Unlike the June-bearing varieties that vigorously produce at once for about 3 weeks in the summer, Vandula’s strawberries yield crops from early June all the way through October.
Once you’ve tried their homegrown strawberries, you’ll keep coming back for more! They’re like nothing we’ve ever seen in a supermarket before.
Things are already gearing up for the October U-Pick season! We always love going to a pumpkin patch and hunting out the perfect pumpkin to bring home.
Vandula Farms values local produce and we love how they place tremendous value on buying from local BC growers. Local farmers understand how we should select plants that grow best in our region. Factors such as disease resistance, growing days and heat tolerance are greatly considered, therefore resulting in plants that have better longevity and local heartiness. Trust me– I need all the help I can get to keep my plants alive!
Vandula’s Garden Centre is brimming with the most popular bedding plants, shrubs, perennials, hanging baskets, herbs and vegetable plants from early Spring until the end of Summer. While they’re always sad to see the planting season ends, they are always mesmerized by the rustic colors of Fall. That’s when they bring in patio mums, pansies, ornamental kale and other Fall annuals to pretty up your patio and garden.
When we first walked into the Market store, I loved the rock music blaring from the radio and modern, slightly-edgy, hip, farm vibe. It’s chock full of food and gifts from local artisans, as well as fresh in season fruits and vegetables grown in the fields or sourced from local BC farms.
Add to your list the local cheese, kombucha, sauces, breads & sausages to pies, dairy, and perogies, you will surely enjoy a farm to table shopping experience. We found many of our favourite local brands and came home with a full bag of local food!
Hey moms— you know when your kid has already had a long day, is super grumpy, and you have still have one more stop for the day? Well, that was us. I knew I was pushing things but we arrived and loved the relaxing atmosphere. The open space, jungle of plants, and calming waterfall sounds calmed us both down and we enjoyed a quiet moment together soaking up the surroundings. As you can see, moods quickly got turned around and we happily explored the rest of the nursery and market together.
As a frazzled mama, I highly recommend taking your kids to Vandula Farms for a calm, creative shopping experience… even when they’re grumpy! We need more places like this.
Hello, diffused natural light, interesting greenhouse architecture and great natural props! I am seriously going to keep this location in mind for future photoshoots!
Thanks to Vandula Farms for inviting us to explore your market + nursery! This experience was a PERFECT fit for our family– and this blog. We really can’t wait to come back and bring my hubby!
Despite the fact that this is a sponsored post, as always, all opinions are my own. We only endorse products and experiences that we would recommend to our friends and family.
